Wow that was spectacular. Substack makes this type of thinking intelligible because you are consciously writing to a common audience like me. It takes you academics out of your cloister and gives you to us commoners. Really, I would never read a book about this stuff - let’s be honest- but this 8000 word essay is wonderful is perfectly wrought for the curious but not particularly well educated.

You should be proud of being able to write something like this it is a massive achievement and more so because I can understand it: popularizing and making accessible this knowledge is the best thing you can do for us all.

Smarty pants like you need to get out there; I am in Pittsburgh on vacation and went to the ball game last night, the feverish city was all around. Terrifying hoodlums drunkards and addicts litter the streets of Pittsburgh, but the Pirates won so all is well - games to distract. The abbey of miss rule is what Paul Kingsnorth calls it.

Too good for words.

How about just a plain Thank You?

The gaze, the gaze, the gaze that will save is in The Pietà.
